Baptism
Holy Baptism is an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual blessing by God. Through the pouring of water in the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, we are adopted as God’s children, made new members of Christ’s Body, the Church, and become inheritors of God's kingdom.
Through Baptism, we commit ourselves to following Jesus as the Way, the Truth and the Life. Baptism is administered to adults who are ready to publicly renounce Satan, repent of their sins and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Prior to being baptized, an individual will meet with one of our priests to discuss the commitment they are about to make and to receive instruction, as appropriate.
Baptism may also be administered to children. At least one of the parents must be a baptized Christian, and must promise to raise the child as a follower of Jesus. Prior to Baptism being celebrated, parents will be asked to meet with our rector to discuss the commitment they are about to make for their child and for themselves.
It is customary to celebrate Holy Baptism during the main service on a Sunday. It is especially appropriate on Easter, Pentecost, All Saints’ Day, or the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord. It is recommended that, as far as possible, Baptisms be reserved for these occasions, or when a bishop is present. However, for pastoral reasons, other options are possible.
